Yesterday I got onto a boat tour and decided to visit Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. It was built in 1886 and was a gift from the people of France. With a broken chain at her feet, she is an icon of freedom for people coming from all over the world, seeking freedom and the American Dream. In the afternoon, after a lunch break at Battery Park, I went to World Trade Center. It was really impressive and touching see the two reflecting pools with all the name of the victims of the 11th September: it’s a place that remarks on absence but also did so in a way that connected the site back into the life of the city, bringing the past into the present and saying that the legacy of that day is with us every day.
