Take me to the moonlight

Today I was in Pisa to visit Tulouse Lautrec exhibition at Palazzo Blu. It’s about the lights and shadows of Montmartre, seen through a series of wacky and often grotesque characters, that the artist paints through posters, lithographs, drawings and paintings. Through its production Lautrec succeeded, more than anyone else, to describe and characterize a city, the colors of a generation and, more generally, the real lifestyle of the late nineteenth century Paris. Paris of the Moulin Rouge, Montmartre and 'brothels'. His art is confined humanity, it shares the joys and anxieties, weaknesses and excesses in a universe populated by bizarre and colorful characters, portrayed with intensity and fury. I really enjoyed the exhibition especially because I appreciate the Belle Epoque decadence and dark side that I have studied throw many books. I wore my favorite color combination: navy blue and black with Acne boots that are still my favorite ones for winter days.

Creativity takes courage

The past weekend I have been at Artissima, one of the most important contemporary art fairs that takes place annually in Turin at the Oval, a glass pavilion built for the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in the industrial archaeology complex of the Lingotto. The event is divided into different areas of interest, which can be grouped into four different sections: the largest one regards the tout-court event where exhibitions of international galleries are consolidated (Main Section), active Turin galleries from less than 5 years (New Entries) and galleries specializing in editions and artists' multiples (Art editions). The other sections are Present Future, devoted to emerging talents; Back to the Future, dedicated to the names that have made contemporary art with a focus this year to the pioneers of the years from '75 to 85; PER4M, section dedicated to performance.

Art is anything you can get away with

My stay in New York is over and tomorrow I am going to back to Italy. I had the best time ever over there and it has been an amazing experience. I really hope to come back soon. I also have to say that, beside the extraordinary architecture and the tasty burgers, I have been able to appreciate USA for all those things that can offer more than Europe: loads of possibilities, different chances for everything, a precious kindness of the people, powerful thoughts and the real possibility to do what you want to. Here are the pictures of my last days in New York that I spent visiting the Moma (Museum of Modern Art) where I sow the famous Matisse’s painting “La Danse” and Picasso’s “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon”, strolling around the Flat Iron (one of the tallest skyscraper since it was built in 1902) and going up the Empire State Building to see for the last time before leaving the city full of lights. Spectacular to leave you without any words.

Saturday at the Met

On Saturday, after a morning walk around Central Park, I have spent the rest of the day at one of my favorite museums: the Metropolitan. The Met is one of the finest museums in the world and is located on the right side of Central Park in New York, along what is called the Museum Mile. There are permanently exhibited works from classical antiquity and Ancient Egypt, paintings and sculptures of almost all the great European masters, and an extensive collection of American and modern art. The Met also has a considerable amount of works of art African, Asian, Oceanic, Byzantine and Islamic. Beside in the galleries of the museum it is always exposed major reconstructions of interiors, ranging from Rome in the first century to the modern American design. I have appreciate every single pieces of the museum, but the parts that have interested me most are the Italian paintings and the Modern Art. I have worn something very comfortable like a pair of vintage denim shorts and a boho bluse that I have bought some months ago in Paris.

Ne me quitte pas

Springtime in Paris is simply glorious: all of the flowers in the city’s parks start to bloom, the trees start to blossom and those bone-chilling breezes off the Seine turn more pleasant than polar. I like enjoying le printemps at Palais Royal gardens, reading a book or studying for my thesis or basically doing nothing. Yesterday after having stayed all the morning there, I went to Fornasetti exhibition at Musée des Arts Decoratifs. It’s a fascinating exhibition, loosely chronological, that paints an entertaining portrait of an artist with a phenomenal output. All the familiar Fornasetti pieces are represented: the furniture, trays, umbrella stands and plates (astounding enough in their volume, humour and execution) but this comprehensive collection delves even deeper. It encompasses early paintings, miniscule sketches on scraps of paper, the books that inspired him, preliminary paintings for scarves and cruise liners, photos of his bedroom as a child (which he decorated himself) and cabinets of curiosities confirming that in Fornasetti’s world, there really was no object unadorned.
