Time for heroes

Yesterday I got onto a boat tour and decided to visit Ellis Island and The Statue of Liberty. It was built in 1886 and was a gift from the people of France. With a broken chain at her feet, she is an icon of freedom for people coming from all over the world, seeking freedom and the American Dream. In the afternoon, after a lunch break at Battery Park, I went to World Trade Center. It was really impressive and touching see the two reflecting pools with all the name of the victims of the 11th September: it’s a place that remarks on absence but also did so in a way that connected the site back into the life of the city, bringing the past into the present and saying that the legacy of that day is with us every day.

First day in New York

Photos of the first day spent in New York last wednesday: after waking up at 5 am and after the 9 hours flight I checked in at the hotel, had a quick shower, changed clothes and I went to enjoy this beautiful city. My first stop was Time square, brightly adorned with billboards and advertisements and with the sculpture of the famous kiss of Victor Jorgensen’s photo. Then I walked along the 5th avenue to reach the Top of the Rock where I sow a beautiful view of Manhattan from the top: it was just breathtaking. My look was really simple, comfortable and of course, american: just a t-shirt, a pair of vintage denim shorts and flats.

Denim playsuit

During summer a playsuit is good alternative to minidress and this one from APC is simply the best. I actually purchased it second hand in Paris and I have worn it all through the past month as it is so comfy, versatile and chic. In this pictures I am in Volterra, one of the most important Etruscan cities, located in the centre of Tuscany, on top of a naturally defended and protected high promontory. It’s a really charm town and I like strolling on the streets of the historic centre and around the archeological roman remains.

Pietrasanta

This morning I have been in Pietrasanta, an historic town with notable monuments mainly contained in the magnificent Piazza del Duomo and also important centre for the artistic working of marble. It has always been an important cultural centre in Versilia. The important artisan tradition has been kept alive by the local workshops and atelier, by the firms specialized in the artistic-mosaic sector and by many artistic-foundries so for its love of art and beauty in Pietrasanta you can "breath" art at each corner. I wore a crochet dress from Isabel Marant from several years ago but that still works perfectly. I really like the weaving of the fabric, the cut and the way it suits me.

Soak up the sun

My summer holidays have finally started: I graduated the last week at Polytechnic of Turin in architecture with a thesis on Guimard, the result of my studies made in Paris some months ago. Now I am able to spend my days on the beach under the sun in Versilia and to go to New York in august. These pictures are from some days ago when I was in Viareggio, enjoying the beginning of my holidays with ice-creams, sun and lightheartedness, surrounded by liberty architecture.
